STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. The term STEAM Education, established by the National Science Foundation, pertains to an educational approach which incorporates more than one of these disciplines. In practice, preschoolers freely participate in STEAM activities both indoors and outdoors on a constant basis. With the right amount of support from Future Achievers Preschool, our students will be provided with numerous opportunities to engage in STEAM learning as well as foster their critical thinking skills.
As they play with blocks, our students can build bridges and ramps—combining math and engineering. A technology component can be added when they research these on a computer. In the outdoors, our students can learn how to solve the problem of bringing water to a garden they helped plant, putting their science and engineering knowledge to good use. Integrating the use of children’s garden tools such as shovels, rakes, and a wheelbarrow builds on this activity to offer an even fuller STEAM experience.
